About Gateshead Branch

Gateshead is a town in Tyne and Wear and lies on the southern bank of the River Tyne opposite Newcastle upon Tyne. The town dates back to Roman times, but its history is deep rooted in both the coal and iron industries throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.

In recent years, the town has become increasingly well known for several examples of iconic architecture such as the Sage Gateshead, the Angel of the North, and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.

Gateshead Branch was originally formed as part of the Gateshead County Borough Police which amalgamated with Durham County in 1968 and then Northumbria Police in 1974.
